My goal, as anyone who has visited my winery or met me elsewhere knows, is to introduce you to the world of biodynamics without delving into anthroposophical topics, but rather by delving into the practical aspects of this agricultural technique.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s start with horn manure, also known as Preparation 500. It&#8217;s a product obtained from the fermentation of high-quality cow manure, contained in cow horns that are buried during the winter. In the pre-autumn period, fresh manure from organically raised cows is collected. The material is then placed inside the cow&#8217;s horns, which are then buried at least 1 meter deep. After about six months, the product is ready for use. The resulting product is very fine, soft, and dark brown in color, odorless and with a faint humus scent. Horn manure is stored in ceramic or glass containers, inside a wooden crate with sides and a lid filled with peat for insulation, and can be used for about a year. The recommended dosage is 100 grams of product per hectare of land, preferably applied on cloudy days in spring or autumn.<\/p>\n<p>Before being sprayed on the ground, Preparation 500 must be gradually brought to human body temperature, 36\u00b0C, then dynamized, that is, mixed with water, preferably acidic and non-chlorinated, and subjected to a stirring process for exactly one hour. Ideally, it would be rainwater, but this water often contains traces of heavy metals, so we prefer softened drilled water, which comes from deep underground aquifers. If conditions permit, we also use it after some soil cultivation. We use a 250-liter copper mechanical dynamizer for approximately 5 hectares of land at a time. Once dynamization is complete, the preparation should be coarsely filtered and sprayed on the soil as quickly as possible, in the late afternoon, when the soil is able to absorb moisture quickly. It is important that it falls in coarse drops, in conditions not excessively cold and\/or dry.<\/p>\n<p>I hope this explanation has been helpful and given you a clearer idea of how to use this important biodynamic preparation!
